HEP ESCO, Croatian state power utility Hrvatska Elektroprivreda’s (HEP) subsidiary which offers various energy services, has announced two new projects in renewable energy and energy efficiency, offering citizens to install rooftop photovoltaic (PV) power plants for self-consumption and to modernize gas boiler rooms in residential buildings, to help reduce heating costs.

The HEPI Solar project will offer citizens rooftop solar power plants of between 4 kW and 10 kW, with HEP ESCO financing their installation and handling their maintenance over 10 years, the company said at its Open Door day.

The investment in such solar power plants will be covered through energy savings – electricity surpluses that will be fed into the grid. After the contract expires, the solar power plant becomes the ownership of the house owner, it was explained at the Open Door day.

Boiler room reconstruction to bring significant savings over 30 years

The other new service that HEP ESCO is about to launch – reconstruction of gas boiler rooms in residential buildings – will bring considerable energy savings to residents over a period of 30 years. Following reconstruction, residents will pay lower bills thanks to reduced consumption of heating energy, while the investment would be paid off through increased building maintenance bills. Contracts with HEP ESCO would be signed for a period of 10 years.

HEP ESCO has recently signed an agreement to install a more energy-efficient public lighting in the municipalities of Zaprešić and Stupnik, a project that is expected to cut electricity consumption by more than 80% compared to the existing public lighting, according to a statement on HEP’s website.

Under the one-stop shop model, HEP ESCO also offers other services related to energy consumption management, such as its ESCO Monitor and SGE projects, and it also participates in several projects financed by the EU, providing consultancy services in the energy and water management sectors.
